PDC is proud to announce our newest solution to help healthcare heroes meet the challenges of today and minimize Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) into the future: Introducing our new UV-C LED Bore Disinfection System to quickly, easily and verifiably disinfect *ANY imaging system bore and table, including: MRI, PET/MR, CT, PET, PET/CT, MR-guided Linac and Nuc Med.
PDC’s unique UV-C LED technology kills 99.9% of all pathogens – including the coronavirus – and is specifically designed to disinfect MRI and all hard-to-clean imaging bores and imaging tables.
By now, many of us are all too familiar with the downsides, uncertainty, and at times, anxiety associated with conventional chemical disinfectants. According to Jim Maslowski, PDC Co-Founder and President, the goal of PDC’s UV-C technology is to help healthcare providers more quickly and easily deliver the safest imaging experiences to patients.
“By pairing required manual cleaning with our UV-C System, technologists can minimize uncertainty, harsh chemicals, wait times and hard-to-clean areas associated with conventional disinfectants,” Maslowski said.
In as little as 2-4 minutes, imaging technologists can be assured that their imaging bore and table have been sufficiently disinfected and are ready for the next patient, according to Maslowski. “Plus, while our UV-C system disinfects the imaging bore and table, it frees up time for the technologist to disinfect other items and prepare for their next patient,” Maslowski said.
But how can technologists be certain the equipment is fully disinfected? “Our UV-C System generates UV-C light energy across the Germicidal Spectrum, 260nm to 300nm – proven to kill 99.9% of all pathogens, including the coronavirus,” said Michael Hemmerly, PDC Co-Chief Sales Officer.
It’s often said that adversity is the mother of invention – and this has certainly been true during this pandemic. However, the original idea for PDC’s UV-C System originated before the coronavirus pandemic.
“We were actually approached by an MRI system vendor about a year before the coronavirus pandemic began, with an expressed need for technology to disinfect MRI bores,” Maslowski said. “However, it wasn’t until the coronavirus pandemic hit, that there was real energy driving this effort. The need prior to the pandemic assures us that this solution has both immediate and long-term value for our customers, partners and for patients,” Maslowski said.
As with most of PDC solutions, the creation of the UV-C solution was a collaborative effort, Maslowski said. “While our current offering can disinfect any imaging bore and table, the original idea was a device to disinfect just one system type – a design for MRI, and one for CT, for example. Feedback from a variety of our customers, partners and healthcare professionals helped guide product development in the most beneficial direction. We are grateful to have the support and insight from our customers and industry partners,” Maslowski said.
Two more hallmarks of PDC solutions are in-house product development and specificity for MRI. “Our UV-C technology is not only built in-house and MRI-safe, but includes an easy-to-use, MRI-safe cart to allow ease of transport between imaging modalities and ease of storage,” Maslowski said.
One more benefit as safety precautions are at a premium? “No construction or downtime is needed. It’s just an easy, plug-and-play install,” said Blayne Seidl, PDC Co-Chief Sales Officer.
“We couldn’t be prouder to offer this technology to our customers. Not only will it help lessen anxiety, disinfection concerns and HAIs, but allow our customers to offer their patients truly the best and safest imaging environment and experiences,” Seidl said.
PDC’s UV-C LED Bore Disinfection System is the first and currently the only system available specifically to disinfect MRI and any imaging bore and table with UV-C LED technology.
“As a patient, I know it would bring me great comfort to know the imaging equipment was fully disinfected prior to my scan,” said Jessica Maslowski, Caring MR Suite® Applications.
“We are truly grateful for all those on the frontlines, for our customers’ and partners’ continued support and proud to play a small role in helping fight this pandemic and promote better infection control into the future,” said Amanda Ahn, Senior Account Manager – Northeast Region.
